What are the side effects of Dupilumab when used for asthma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 34-year-old male dealing with asthma. My breathing is heavy, and I am interested in learning more about the drug Dupixent. I am so worried about asthma. Can you provide information on how Dupixent works to manage asthma symptoms? What are the common symptoms of asthma that Dupixent aims to address? Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with using Dupixent for asthma? How long does it typically take to experience relief with Dupixent, and is it suitable for long-term use? Can Dupixent be used together with other asthma medications, or is it typically a standalone treatment? Are there any lifestyle modifications or precautions I should consider while using Dupixent?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

Actually, Dupixent (Dupilumab) is a good medicine for controlling inflammatory reactions, and due to its action, it can help somehow with asthma, but it is not a complete treatment for asthma. We cannot fully rely on this medicine. Asthma occurs due to allergies like dust and pollen. So, if you prevent the allergies, then you will not have asthmatic symptoms. So I would suggest you prevent the allergies, and then we can prescribe medicine accordingly.

If there is anything else, please let me know.

Thank you.
