Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been dealing with severe asthma for a long time, and it has been difficult to manage despite using multiple inhalers and medications. I recently heard about Tezepelumab and its potential to reduce asthma attacks in people with uncontrolled asthma, and I am very interested in trying it. However, I also have chronic kidney failure and am on dialysis, so I am concerned about the safety of this medication for me. Does Tezepelumab have any effects on the kidneys or interact with dialysis treatments in any way? Are there any known risks or side effects for patients with kidney failure? I have tried other biologics in the past, but they didn’t work well or caused complications, so I want to be cautious. Could this medication help improve my breathing without negatively impacting my kidney condition?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The most common side effects of Tezepelumab include sore throat, joint pain, and back pain. These are some of the documented side effects, though they are not all possible side effects. It is advisable to continue using other bronchodilators alongside Tezepelumab, a prescription medication used in combination with other asthma medications for the maintenance treatment of severe asthma in individuals aged 12 years and older whose asthma remains uncontrolled with their current treatment. Tezepelumab works by preventing severe asthma attacks (also known as exacerbations) and can improve breathing.
Tezepelumab is not intended to treat sudden breathing problems. If your asthma does not improve or worsens after starting treatment with Tezepelumab, inform your healthcare provider. It is not known whether Tezepelumab is safe and effective for children under the age of 12. You should continue taking your current asthma medications alongside Tezepelumab, as it is used to enhance the effectiveness of your current treatment. Asthma exacerbations can sometimes mimic symptoms of an infection, so using bronchodilators to treat and manage the condition is recommended. There are no major documented effects of Tezepelumab on the kidneys, but further monitoring is advised.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
