I lose 2 kg within a week of Xanax treatment. Is it normal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I spent a month with anxiety disorders, and with Xanax treatment, I lost 2 kg in a month without a diet. Is it normal? The treatment with Xanax is six days so far, and I have to do it for 15 days. I have no other symptoms.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from anxiety disorders. For many people, anxiety or stress can have a direct effect on weight. It may cause weight loss or weight gain. It can vary from person to person or situation to situation. Anxiety may lead to missed meals, loss of appetite, indigestion, digestive problems, and poor food choices. Again it may cause some people to lose interest or desire to eat completely. It is totally normal for your weight to fluctuate 1-2 kg a month.

Xanax contains Alprazolam, which belongs to the group of medications known as Benzodiazepines is used to treat anxiety, depression, etc. It may cause weight gain in the near future as a side effect.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can I take a multivitamin to gain the 2 kg back? I do not want to cause problems to my body. All blood tests were normal a few months ago.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can take a multivitamin. Try to reduce your anxiety and stress which will help to improve your appetite and eventually help in gaining weight.
