What are the tests that I should repeat regularly to check the status of my APS syndrome?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Following my previous query regarding APS syndrome with immunological features of lupus, I am attaching my latest blood test results. After starting the Plaquenil, my polyarthralgia is less painful than 12 to 18 months ago. Although somewhat slow, the decrease in pain is evident.

As you told me to keep getting tested every six months for CBC, LFT, KFT, ESR, and urine analysis, I have attached the recent reports of the same. All seem to be in range. Should I continue to get tested every six months indefinitely?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Good to know that your symptoms are improving. All your test results look normal (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). It would be best if you continued getting these tests at regular intervals, as it will help in the early identification of any disease manifestation, in case you have any other organ involvement due to APS (antiphospholipid syndrome) or lupus. If everything remains normal, you will not need any additional treatment. For now, I suggest you continue taking Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Should I repeat the same tests every six months? Should I also check ANA and anti-DNA?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, repeat the same tests every six months. You need not check the antibodies repeatedly. The anti-dsDNA test can be repeated if you develop any new symptoms or your above tests are abnormal.

Thanks.
