What is the treatment of ankle sprain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have an ankle sprain. I am a 19-years-old male. I did not take any medications. While playing football, I got injured and my right ankle is paining while twisting the ankle. It has been 15 days since injury.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It takes up to six weeks for the ankle sprain to resolve. I suggest doing the icing, ankle ROM (Range of motion) exercises, and ankle strengthening once the pain is less. You have not mentioned the site of pain. Is this on the inside or the outside? Is there any bony tenderness, and do you have any x-ray? I suggest anti-inflammatory tablets for pain and go for another few weeks.
