How to manage sexual and physical anhedonia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have physical anhedonia. I cannot feel pleasure from physical touch like head massages. I also have sexual anhedonia. I cannot feel pleasure sexually or from orgasm. Is there any advice on how to cure this? I find it quite distressing.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It can be due to

1. Infections – This can be due to urine infection. Do urine test and ultrasound of pelvis to diagnose the cause.

2. Diabetes, hypertension – Make sure blood pressure and blood sugar are under control. Already on medication? Kindly share the medication name.

3. Hormonal disturbances- Low testosterone, low levels of thyroid, high levels of prolactin – check for TFT (thyroid function test), prolactin, and testosterone.

4. Obesity - Plan for regular exercise and yoga.

5. High cholesterol – Check for lipid profile and plan for regular exercise.

6. Chronic disease or on any chronic medication – Kindly share the details.

7. Anxiety can also cause libido issues.

You need to do this,

1. USG (ultrasonogram) pelvis to rule out pelvis infection, thyroid check-up free T3, T4 (thyroxine - T3, T4), TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), lipid profile to know cholesterol level, blood pressure, RBS (random blood sugar). Kindly share more details regarding the above reason, so we can work on the cause and treatment.

2. You can use Tablet Mildfil 5 mg twice daily as a temporary solution.
