Kindly suggest a solution to help my long-term anemia.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 58 years old. I am anemic. Last time, I went to the hospital and had six units of blood. After getting some blood, I felt fine. But now, I am weak again.

What can I do for a quick fix for this problem?

They found no internal bleeding. I cannot do this anymore, and I have no energy. I have been this way almost all my life, and it is just getting worse. They told me I needed iron and sent me home. Please help me improve myself and prove to my family that I am not lazy but have no energy.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is a common problem. Do not worry. You did not mention whether you are taking iron supplements. If not, please start taking them so that you can improve your hemoglobin. Also, do regular Hb (hemoglobin) checkups after taking the supplement to rule out any problem in iron absorption.

Initially, an iron injection may improve anemic status. Later, you can switch to oral iron supplements. Also, take food rich in iron, such as flaxseeds, jaggery, beetroot, and carrots.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
