Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am anemic, and my hemoglobin level is only 8 g/dL. Is it common to receive a blood transfusion in such cases, or is it rare? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Your hemoglobin level is low. If you are having side effects of anemia, yes you need a blood transfusion (packed cells). Before that, we need to investigate the cause of the anemia. I would suggest that you have a blood smear, iron and B12 level tests, liver function tests, and renal profile tests done. In case of Iron deficiency, I would suggest you take iron medication, iron infusion, and B-complex medicine to treat worm infestation. Kindly send reports for review.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
