How long is the hemorrhoidectomy recovery time after surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 23 years old. I underwent open internal rigid sphincterotomy and hemorrhoidectomy for chronic anal fissures and piles. But I have severe pain in the anal canal all the time now.

During bowel movements, it gets worse. I underwent surgery for 23 days. I also see some blood in my stools. Without a stool softener, I am unable to bear the pain. How long does it take to get a full recovery?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Recovery time after surgery is two to three weeks. But it may take a month in some cases. You can try these simple steps to accelerate recovery. Try these steps for a week. If the problem persists, it is better to consult a surgeon and try to do a physical examination of the anal region.

Try to increase fiber in your diet. Take at least five to six servings of fruits and raw vegetables every day. Avoid taking white bread. Drink plenty of water. Use one teaspoon of mineral oil in your meals. It will help in sliding your bowel, and there will be no pain. Do not delay defecation, as it can increase the pain. Go to the toilet as soon as you have an urge to pass motions and do not strain.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
