Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a severe ongoing headache; it feels like my sinuses are blocked, and my face hurts. Also, my throat hurts, and I have difficulty swallowing and a high BP of 170/100 mm of Hg (I usually have 140/90 mm of Hg). This has been going on for two days and is not getting better. I had a blood test yesterday, and my lymphocytes are at 17%, whereas my neutrophils are at 76%.
Thus, I suspect a viral infection. I had a fever of 37.8° Celsius and a viral throat infection at least twice a year. I do not have an easy way of getting medical care, but the doctor did not prescribe antibiotics on the phone and said I should take Paracetamol for a few days to see if it gets better. I have 875 mg of Amoxicillin. Could I start taking them since I am not getting better? Currently, I am taking Nexium for hiatal hernia.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Antibiotics can be taken but make sure these antibiotics are not expired. Take only after meals, not more than twice a day, and you should not continue for more than five days. Firstly, I would suggest you do the same, take a tablet of Paracetamol and drink lukewarm water only, and take frequent soups and green tea to help with throat pain. If symptoms are severe, then you can start antibiotics. If you need anything else, please let me know. Along with antibiotics, please take one tablet of multivitamins daily before sleeping for five days.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and take care.
