I am facing partial hair loss at front edges. Please help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am facing partial hair loss from the front edges of my hairs. I think I have a disease called alopecia areata. But I do not wanna be so quick saying that I certainly have such disease. First, it was not that bad. So, I ignored it hoping it would get better with time. But to my surprise, it has just gone purely noticeable and now I want some home remedy or medicinal treatment for it. Also, I do not want any surgeries because I am only 18 years old.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It would have been easier for me to diagnose the condition if you would have attached your clinical picture along with your query. Because there are other causes of hair loss like androgenetic alopecia, frontal fibrosing alopecia. Hence, the diagnosis should be confirmed before starting any treatment. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder. Treatment options are:

  1. Intralesional injection of Triamcinolone acetonide. Depending on the severity and number of bald patches, you may require multiple sessions of injection.
  2. Topical Minoxidil, topical steroids, immunomodulators like Tacrolimus.

Thank you.
