Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from watering and itching in my eyes since last night, despite having weak eyesight. Currently, I am not taking any medication, and I have not undergone any laboratory tests. Which readily available eye drops would be more suitable for me? Kindly help

Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health care.

I have gone through your history and understand your concerns. I think you may have allergic conjunctivitis. Eye allergies, known as allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to an irritating substance, referred to as an allergen. The eyes produce histamine to combat the allergen, resulting in redness, swelling, itching, tearing, and a burning sensation in the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin membrane covering the inside of the eyelids). The key to treating eye allergies is to avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. Instead of rubbing your eyes, apply cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrops like Olopatadine-containing eyedrops twice daily. Use lubricating eyedrops like Flogel (Carboxymethylcellulose) three times daily. In severe allergy cases, use a mild steroid containing eyedrops like Flurisone (Fluorometholone) in pulse doses. I am sorry to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergies. The only way to manage it is to avoid exposure to substances you are allergic to. Please note that this is a provisional diagnosis. Consult your ophthalmologist for a detailed examination and take medications with their consent. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
