What could be the reason for dairy intolerance?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I've been dealing with allergic asthma for the past two months. I often get throat irritation and a dry cough, especially after consuming dairy products. I've been taking Montek LC regularly.

Do you think I should start using an inhaler at this point? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on your symptoms, here are a few steps you can take to manage your condition effectively:

  1. First, avoid any foods or substances that you know trigger allergic reactions—this includes dairy if you've noticed symptoms after consuming it. Continue taking Montelukast (10 mg) daily as it helps reduce inflammation and control allergy-related asthma.
  2. If you experience an asthma attack, use a rescue inhaler—take two puffs, and you may repeat this every five minutes as needed until symptoms improve. However, this should be done under guidance, especially if attacks become frequent or severe.
  3. In case of repeated symptoms or nighttime awakenings due to asthma, a daily steroid inhaler may be required to control chronic airway inflammation.

Most importantly, please consult with a pulmonologist or allergy specialist. They can evaluate your condition in detail and recommend the most appropriate long-term treatment plan, including whether an inhaler is right for daily use or just for emergencies.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out with any more questions.

Thank you.
