What is the treatment for alcohol and smoking addiction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband is addicted to alcohol and smoking. What treatment is recommended?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. First of all, treatment for alcohol addiction and smoking is a self-decision and self-will. If he is willing to stop, you can get help from de-addiction centers for medicines. To reduce alcohol cravings, I would suggest Acamprosate (synthetic amino acid) and Etizolam for withdrawal symptoms. For smoking cessation, Buspirone can be helpful. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent. Again the only concern is that the person should be willing.
