How do I manage gastritis and diarrhea after having alcohol?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I saw a doctor for abdominal burning and pain in the throat after one night of drinking alcohol. She said I had gastritis, but I did not say I had diarrhea as well. What shall I do? Currently, I am taking Lansoprazole.

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The current medicine will help in improving diarrhea as well, if associated with gastritis. Take the medicine for at least a week. Try to be on a bland soft diet for the next few days.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you. I have taken it for two days now with no improvement. Still feeling a constant feeling of hunger, and have diarrhea. Is this normal with gastritis? If so, why does it cause diarrhea?

Answered by Dr. Noushif. M

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Transient diarrhea can happen. You can add probiotics like Darolac or Vizylac (Lactobacillus) twice daily with food for three days. Do not keep your stomach empty, rather practice short frequent feeds.
