How to overcome side effects caused due to multiple medications?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had severe anxiety, depression, palpitation, IBS, diarrhea, too much sweating, and low self-confidence problems for the last 20 years. I tried all medicines, including homeopathy, herbal, ayurvedic, and allopathic, but did not get much effect. I consulted a psychiatrist, and I am presently taking the medicines given below:

  1. Clonazepam and Escitalopram oxalate.
  2. Propranolol.
  3. Nortriptyline.

I have some relief from IBS, diarrhea, and depression problems, and these medicines suit me well but do not get much benefit in anxiety, palpitation, or sweating issues, which create social embarrassment, and I avoid going to any function, party, or event. The doctor suggested increasing my Propranolol, but it creates stomach upset, and also, not much allopathic medicine suits me. What can I add or change in medicine to get rid of severe anxiety palpitations and sweating issues?

Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your problem and situation. I know your case in detail. I can understand that you are not able to tolerate some medications.

I would like to suggest some new medication. It will surely help you with your IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). You can take one tablet of Isozex (Isopropamide and Trifluoperazine) at night. It is used for IBS. The rest of the medication you can take as you are taking and reduce the dose of Propranolol as you are not able to tolerate it.

I hope that you got your answer.

Revert in case of queries.

Hello doctor,

Thank you. I hope that Isozex will also help with anxiety and IBS problems. Please suggest if I need to take Isozex only once or if I can take it twice.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You just take it once at night before going to sleep. Take for at least two weeks, then do a follow-up. You will get that medicine or similar medication.

I hope this helps you.

Revert in case of queries.

Regards.
