How to reverse the condition of acute kidney injury?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I went to the doctor who told me I had an acute kidney injury due to dehydration. Can it lead to acute kidney failure?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query.
Acute kidney damage is always called acute kidney injury. So, any damage happening in less than three months that can be reversed, is known as acute kidney injury (AKI). In simple words, an abrupt decrease in kidney functions, which encompasses both injury (structural damage) and impairment (loss of function) functions, is called AKI. Dehydration is one common cause for kidneys to get damaged. So, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.
1. Take a lot of fluids.
2. Drink plenty of water.
3. Take a lot of salt-rich diets.
Dehydration occurs when you have an acute diarrheal episode or recurrent vomiting episodes. This is a temporary phase where kidney functions can be restored.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
