Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 32-year-old male with somewhat oily and a very pale skin. I have an acne prone in the T-Zone. In the morning, I wash my face with lotion soap (non-antibacterial) followed by SPF 30 Face Lotion. At night, I use a 2 % salicylic acid face scrub followed by 2 % salicylic acid toner, and finally the face lotion. I have been doing this for about four years and it has eliminated my acne. Is it fine to continue this routine as I am in my 30s? Am I doing any harm? Is there anything else I should add to my routine to keep my skin healthy?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If you had acne then the application of 2 % salicylic acid face wash does help. But, using the same for four years is not advisable as it leads to constant peeling of the skin and makes the skin photosensitive. Continue using sunscreen in morning. Kindly send images and revert back so that medications can be advised.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
You want me to send a photo of my acne? Or of medications like skin products? I think my skin looks just fine, but should I switch to something else?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Yes, without clinical photographs it is difficult to comment on the creams and products to be used. Secondly, as you know salicylic acid is a keratolytic, and long-term use of this is not advisable. Yes, you should consider changing your bedtime routine.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for replying.
I have attached the photos. I have some redness on the top of my nose from wearing a face mask. My forehead and nose are usually very oily. Kindly suggest treatment.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed the clinical photographs attached by you (attachment removed to protect patient identity).
You seem to have good skin. Yes, there are a few open pores and blackheads over the nose. I suggest you apply Clindac A Gel (Clindamycin Topical) over the acne when you have breakouts. There are also a few blackheads over the tip of the nose that can be extracted with the help of a comedone extractor. I suggest you change your face wash. For dryness, you can consider a facial moisturizer of the same brand. Continue sunscreen in the morning whichever you are comfortable with or consider a good sunscreen which is non-comedogenic. Avoid using any kind of facial scrub frequently.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
Is there anything I should do on the anti-aging side to offset the four years of the Salicylic acid use?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You are fine. Just continue the application of sunscreen daily in the morning. There is no need of any anti-aging products at present.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
