What is the cure for acne scars in winter?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old male, 6”0 feet, and 152 pounds. I have acne and dark circles. In winter, my acne scars get worse, and nothing seems to work.

I used glycolic acid in summer, but it is not helping my acne scars in winter. I used Benzoyl peroxide 2.5 percent soap, but it dries out my skin completely.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Acne is a very common skin condition in adults. Causes of acne can be hormonal, genetic, overactive sebaceous glands (oil-producing glands), clogged pores, excess use of oily, greasy cosmetics or makeup, exposure to dust or pollutants, diet, certain medications, and stress.

I suggest you follow a few steps:

  1. Relax and make yourself stress-free, as stress is a big contributing factor to acne.

  2. Avoid skin products that sting or burn on application or cause breakouts.

  3. Avoid oily, greasy cosmetic products.

  4. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and C, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids.

  5. Drink plenty of water.

  6. Avoid direct sunlight.

  7. Use a gentle cleanser twice daily in the morning and evening.

  8. Use water-based or ceramide-based moisturizer after cleansing.

  9. Acne oc cream (Propanediol and Niacinamide) or Acne oc cream (Capric triglyceride and Isononyl isononanoate) can be used to hydrate skin.

  10. Use photostable sunscreen daily.

  11. Tablet Antoxid HC (antioxidant capsules) once daily after dinner for 30 days.

  12. Use Eyecirque (Retinol, Niacinamide, and Glutathione) under eye serum at night for two weeks.

  13. Avoid harsh chemicals on the face.

Attach a clinical picture to assess acne grade so can guide you further with treatment details.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
