Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been getting a few pimples every month on my scalp for the last couple of years. It is nothing serious or widespread, but the pimples are slightly painful to touch. I wanted to know what this condition is and if there is any way I can prevent it from occurring.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
This seems to be recurrent bacterial folliculitis. It can happen to anyone with the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria carrier stage, in which bacteria normally reside on the skin and can lead to repeated infections. The treatment may last a couple of weeks, but the recurrence can occur in two to three months.
I would suggest the following medications.
1. Tablet Bicef (Cefadroxil) 500 mg twice daily for one week after meals.
2. Capsule Rcin (Rifampicin) 600 mg once daily before breakfast. The urine color will be red with Rifampicin, which is normal.
3. Cream T Bact (Mupirocin) is to be applied twice daily on these lesions and under the nail, nasal vestibular space (anterior part of the nasal cavity where the bacteria usually reside), behind the ear, and nasolabial space for a week.
However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.
Also, get your blood sugar tested.
Hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I want to ask a few questions. First, please tell me how many days I should consume the tablet Rcin as it is not mentioned in your previous response. And can you recommend any shampoo for daily use that might help fight folliculitis?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You can take the tablet Rcin (Rifampicin) for two weeks. However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent. Also, you can use Betadine-AD (Povidone-iodine 4 %) shampoo. If it is unavailable, then you can use ketoconazole shampoo.
Hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
