How to treat closed comedones and hyperpigmentation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old female. My skin type is oily and has gone bad for the past two years. I have severe acne and acne marks on my face. In the last few months, I had recovered from acne but after applying natural aloe vera, my skin had closed comedones. These are not getting better after proper skin care and staying hydrated. At night, I use Tretinoin three to four times a week and Glycolic acid and Salicylic acid once a week. I use a face wash with Salicylic acid and Azelaic acid three times a week in the morning, followed by a whitening cream with Alpha arbutin and Glutathione three times a week. My primary concerns are skin peeling, comedones, acne, and post-hyperpigmentation. Can I use petroleum jelly before using Tretinoin?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

As per the attached image, it is grade 2 acne. I suggest you to do the following steps -

  1. Apply Nadifloxacin cream (antibiotic) twice daily for two weeks.

  2. Wash your face with Dermadew acne face wash (sulfate-free) twice daily in the morning and evening for two weeks.

  3. Do not pop pimples.

  4. Relax and make yourself stress-free as stress is a big contributing factor to acne.

  5. Avoid skin products that sting or burn on application or cause breakouts.

  6. Drink plenty of water.

Follow up after two weeks.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
