Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had open pores and acne marks on my skin for more than a year. Pimples create dark spots and uneven skin tone on my face. I regularly use a gentle face cleanser and sunscreen.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
From your detailed history, it is evident that you have post-acne hyperpigmentation with large pores. Acne often appears due to hormonal fluctuations or imbalances, genetic reasons, climate changes, food habits (oily, fried, and sweet food items), and a reaction to new products being used on the face. Dark spots and pores accompany acne, which develops following inflammation of acne and due to excess oil secretion from the skin. There are medications and procedures available for managing the same. I suggest you follow these measures.
(Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.)
1. Use Vitamin E, Aloe vera, and Glycolic acid-containing face wash twice daily.
2. Apply Clindamycin and Niacinamide gel twice daily on the face.
3. Take a chewable Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) tablet of 500 mg in the morning after breakfast for two months. They help to fight against the free radicals from sun exposure, thereby helping reduce further hyperpigmentation and brightening skin tone.
4. Take a Vitamin E capsule of 400 mg once every night after dinner for two months. They help to brighten the skin and improve skin tone and texture.
5. Apply 4 to 5 drops of Vitamin C serum twice daily on the face after washing the face with face wash.
6. Avoid oily and fried food, milk, dairy products, sweets, and chocolates as they trigger acne.
9. Consume more fruits, vegetables, and fiber-rich food, and ensure adequate hydration with at least ten glasses of water daily.
Acne and post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation may be on and off depending on the above factors. However, as mentioned above, they may be managed with medications and by protecting yourself from external triggers. On the other hand, internal stimuli depend on hormonal fluctuations that cannot be controlled. For most individuals, acne marks fade as they grow older with regularisation of hormone levels. Apart from the above advice, I would also request you provide an image of the affected area to assess the severity of the acne on the image option provided in the query session for further management if required.
Thank you.
