Does acid reflux causes throat swelling and chest pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My throat feels like it is swelling after eating. I suffer from acid reflux. I am also experiencing chest pain.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It sounds like you may be experiencing symptoms related to acid reflux, which can cause a feeling of tightness or swelling in the throat, as well as chest pain. The sensation of a ball in the throat may also be related to acid reflux or to another condition called globus sensation. Still, to be cautious, I would recommend you go for an electrocardiogram (ECG).

Also, ask your doctor to increase the dose of Lansoprazole or add Itopride to it. This will help. In the meantime, there are some lifestyle changes that may help to alleviate your symptoms. Avoiding trigger foods and drinks (such as spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol), eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day, and not lying down for at least two to three hours after eating may be helpful. Elevating the head of your bed by six to eight inches can also help to prevent acid reflux symptoms while sleeping.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
