Can acid reflux cause enlarged tonsils and throat swelling?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a tonsil cyst which enlarges in size for the past few days. The tonsil appears sticky, smooth, and semi-firm to touch, but there is no pain. I have attached the images.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the images attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), I can see inflammatory signs like redness and edema. Do you have acid reflux with a burning sensation in your chest or stomach? Do you have a bitter taste in your throat while waking up in the morning?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I do not have acid reflux.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is an inflammation and not a tonsil cyst. Follow the below steps: 1. I suggest anti-inflammatory drugs like tablet Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg or Diclofenac Potassium 50 mg twice daily for two days. 2. If the symptoms do not improve, I suggest you capsule Amoxicillin 1 gm twice daily for a week. 3. Take neck ultrasonography to identify hidden cysts or masses.
