Why is the second menstrual cycle after medical abortion irregular, with heavy bleeding and vaginal discharge?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 26 years old and my height is 5 feet 6 inches.

It has been 70 days after a medical abortion.

The condition till now is,

1. It is the second menstrual cycle after medical abortion. For the first five days, the bleeding was heavy with small clots. It stopped on the fourth day evening and to the fifth day afternoon.

2. Then it starts after that and stopped the seventh day evening.

3. Then greyish fluid discharge starts, and today whitish fluid is being discharged.

4. Pain is present under the navel (not much severe but it remained silent after the first menstrual cycle).

5. Headache (high or low in severity but it remains).

6. Backache (constant while working and it feels severe once in a day).

7. Menstrual cycle is over now, and the bleeding has stopped. But whitish and sometimes yellowish fluid continuously releases after both the menstrual cycle and abortion.

8. Temperature is below normal now, blood pressure 120 to 70 mmHg, and whitish fluid discharge is being continued.

Please diagnose it and prescribe medicine.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Miscarriage has been treated already two months back and you got periods. As of now, the only thing is vaginal discharge that needs to investigate.

1. Take a vaginal swab to check the cause of the infection.

2. Maintain strict hygiene.

3. Wear soft comfortable undergarments.

4. Take complete check-ups and treatment of any health issue you have.

5. You can have Canesten vaginal Pessary (Clotrimazole) to remove candidiasis on two alternate nights at bedtime only after the collection of swabs.

6. Take tablet Doxycycline 100 mg 12 hourly and tablet metronidazole 400 mg eight hourly for seven days.

7. Collect laboratories and discuss them here.

After a miscarriage, a few cycles could be irregular but if remains irregular for many cycles then it needs investigation.
