What is the recurrence rate of abdominal aortic aneurysms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an ECHO done on my heart recently. I will attach all my ECHO reports for your reference if this is being done correctly. I also have a stent after my endovascular surgery and I am very worried about any growth of anywhere else on my aorta.

I have high cholesterol, prehypertension, and several autoimmune diseases.

I took medications for the same complaint including Allergy-D, Prednisone Biaxin, Propanol, Soma, CoQ10, vitamin D, baby Aspirin, IVIG infusions for immune deficiency, and Diflucan. What to do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I have gone through your ECHO (echocardiogram) images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

There are multiple dimensions that we look for in ECHO while examining the Aortic valve and nearby structures like LVOT (left ventricular outflow tract obstruction), aortic root, sinus of Valsalva, sino tubular junction, ascending aorta, Arch of aorta, descending aorta, abdominal aorta, etc.

In the ECHO pic with two lines, one measurement is the aortic root and the second one is the ascending aorta.

I would like you to go for a CT (computed tomography) scan once, as you have undergone an endovascular procedure. It will be more accurate for follow-up.

ECHO is observer-biased.

Also would like to know exactly where was your stent or graft placed.

I hope this helps.

Do get back in case of any further queries.

Thank you.
