Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 28-year-old and now 21 weeks pregnant. I had done 20 weeks anomaly scan 2D echo scan. I am going through a lot of abdominal pain and back pain. I want to know about this. And is it very necessary in my condition please tell me about this?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
From your history, I do not see any need for a cerclage. Cerclage is a procedure where the tape or stitch is put surgically. It is like a bag or sac's mouth being closed with a thread. It has no actual strength, it keeps the mouth, if weakened, closed. Suppose the pressure in the uterus increases and if the stitch is blocking the exit, the pain can just make a new opening. I mean the uterus can tear off and bleeding can start. If this pain is real pain as the doctor suspects, how can the stitch reduce the pain? This is used if you have a history of previous cervical dilation or examination showing a dilated cervix or scan showing cervical length of < 2.5 centimeters. You do not seem to have any of the complications.
So I would suggest you to think of the alternative causes.
I hope this helps.
