Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father recently passes a lot of urine. He says that he has the tendency to urinate but cannot urinate. So, we immediately went to the hospital, and the doctor did some tests, and he passed urine through a urine tube. We did a USG and the report says that my father has an enlarged prostate with a volume of 93cc (57×48×64)mm. He was prescribed the tablet Silotime-D one tablet to be taken before bedtime for 14 days. The PSA report has not arrived yet. My father is taking the medications- Olmezest 20 mg, a fixed dose combination of Linagliptin and Metformin hydrochloride, and medications for hypertension. Kindly let me know what should be done.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Your father has an enlarged prostate (prostate is a gland found near the bladder). It usually enlarges with age. According to the ultrasound report that has been attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the prostate is enlarged to a very large size. Medications are usually less effective in such cases. Medication gives good relief only in mild to moderate enlargement of the prostate but in your father's case, the enlargement is severe. So, he may need surgery.

Surgery is done in an endoscopy manner (without any cut on the body) and is called TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) or HoLEP (Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate). You will need to meet a urologist doctor near you and plan for the surgery. Till then, your father has to continue taking the medicines. If he has very good relief with medication, then you can wait for surgery. but medication should be continued for a long time.

I hope this helps.

Do revert in case of any further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Right now, he is using a urine tube, and the doctor told him to use it for three days. Are there any side effects if he takes other medications along with this medication like BP medicine, anti-diabetic, and headache medicines? Will it have any reaction? Kindly let me know.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Glad to have you back.

All other medicines can be continued. No reaction occurs with simultaneous use of prostate medication.

Thank you.
