Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My grandfather suffers from kidney failure and is on dialysis thrice a week. He also has blood pressure problems and is 92 years old. The hemodialysis has been going on for around three years now, can I please understand the survival months he has left, so we as a family get a better picture and be prepared for the same?

Please help.

Hello doctor,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concern.

Wonderful to hear and appreciate that your grandfather despite being 92 years old, still wanted him to survive and have kept him on dialysis. Now coming from a medical point of view, as long as he is well dialyzed and following the medications properly along with die,t and not having any complications during dialysis in the form of sepsis or BP (blood pressure) drops, or inability to eat, tiredness, chest discomfort, dialysis will keep him going. We cannot predict his outcome as I have seen people surviving on dialysis for 30 years and are still on dialysis and people who have lost their lives in less than five years. It depends on their capability and the individual's body's ability to cope with hemodialysis. Just do a full test for him to make sure all vitals are fine.

Although dialysis is a procedure that is against nature's damage to the human body, it helps with people's lives. Dialysis will not kill people, but the complications of dialysis will.
