Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I finished my Invisalign treatment and received retainers that look like Invisalign trays. But it is thicker. I am wearing them for the second day. I am wearing it for about 12 hours a day. But I am noticing pain on my teeth now, and they are tight on my teeth. Should I have to wear them for 12 hours a day?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query, and I can understand your concern. Retainers are a passive appliance, and they do not generate any force. If you feel a pain on the mucous membrane (oral tissue or gums), it can be ill-fitted. If there is a pain on the teeth, then it can be active (imparting pressure). You do not need to wear them for more than 12 hours, especially when it is painful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
