Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 42-year-old female with a six-year history of diabetes, currently managing it with Metformin. While my blood sugar levels have been well-controlled, there were four months last year when I stopped taking my medication. During my visit to the doctor, my A1C was elevated at 8.2. Determined to avoid additional medication, I committed to a healthy eating regimen and regular exercise.

Over the past 10 weeks, my efforts have resulted in significant improvement, with my A1C decreasing to 7.0 and fasting blood sugar readings at 109 mg/dL. However, despite my consistent exercise routine, which includes low-impact aerobic workouts six times a week for 30 minutes each, I have not experienced any weight loss.

I am seeking guidance on why I am not losing weight despite my efforts to manage my diabetes through lifestyle changes.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Based on your progress in reducing your HbA1c levels to 7.0 % through diet and exercise, it's evident that you have made commendable efforts. However, regarding weight loss, your current low-intensity aerobic program might not be sufficient.

To effectively lose weight, consider incorporating alternating high and low-intensity workouts, totaling 60 minutes daily. Additionally, maintaining a daily caloric intake of 1200-1500 kcal is crucial. Keeping a detailed food diary, and recording every bite consumed can provide insight into your dietary habits.

Aim to drink eight to ten glasses of water daily. Adequate sleep, ideally seven to eight hours per night, also plays a significant role in weight management.

By adjusting your exercise regimen, monitoring your calorie intake diligently, staying hydrated, and ensuring proper sleep, you may see improvements in your weight loss journey.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
