Citrobacter Koseri detected during 18th week of pregnancy

Dr. Sheetal Kamble., BHMS

Medical Case Details:

Hello,

One of my 38 yrs old patient is detected with Citrobacter Koseri >100,000 organism/ml in urine culture. No UTI Symptoms. USG was normal during 15th week of pregnancy. Her Gynaec is going to start with antibiotics now but was wondering what is the chance of baby getting meningitis or sepsis problems or any other complications due to this bacteria.

What would be another way of managing this case?

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Sheetal

45 to 50% chances of meningitis caused by gram negative.. and citrobacter is also gram negative..
Other complications can include brain abcess and ventriculitis

Thank you doctors for your advice.

Right now patient is on Cephalaxine 500mg thrice a day for 10 days. No symptoms of UTI seen till now.

She will be going for USG next week. Will update you about the progress.
