Dr. Isaac Gana., MD CARDIOLOGY

Medical Case Details:

Hello, I have been diagnosed with BPPV last month. I have persistent lightheadedness, which improved significantly with higher doses of Stemetil. I relapse while using a lower dose. Please advise what to do.

First of all you should do some investigations such as measuring blood pressure, an ECHO and an ECG to exclude any diseases. You can withdraw Stemetil and take Betahistidine di-Hcl 24 mg.

Thanks Dr. Mustapha for your reply. I have been diagnosed of high blood pressure for over 8years well controlled. Echo and ECG are both within norm. Can I take the beta histamine only at night? Because I work during the day. Won't it affect me?

Hi Dr Gana, how are you now? Your case is a month old but I'm responding because I have seen patients going round n round without a proper diagnosis.
In your case, diagnosis of BPPV was made. So was any canalolith repositioning maneuver carried out?
If not, then that needs to be done, because that is the definite treatment of bppv and not vertin or stemetil. they're just addons.
